Nankeen Kestrel Falco cenchroides
Nankeen Kestrels are slender falcons and are relatively small raptors. These birds are found in most areas of Australia and so they live and nest also along the coastal fringe of the greater Sydney area where they often use the up-winds around the cliff edges to glide through the air almost without any movement of their wings. Kestrels are common but lovely birds and frequently encountered on our bird walks.
We find them regularly at Long Reef or at Wattamolla, Royal National Park. Photographing Kestrels from the cliffs around Sydney provide quite often unusual views at these birds.
In the Kestrel gallery you find some of my favourite shots.
