Kingfishers, Bee-eaters and Rollers Coraciiformes
The order of Kingfishers, Bee-eaters, Rollers and relatives includes ~ 210 species of some of the most colourful, unusual and attractive birds in the world. They have relatively compact bodies, rather short necks, large heads, long and pointed bills. These birds very often perch in trees, where some feed; others fly in search of food, and a few walk or hop on the ground. Kingfishers belong to this order and there are over 80 species of kingfishers worldwide. In Australia we have 10 species of Kingfisher.
