Iron Range, Daintree and Atherton Tablelands - 2017

One of my highlights this year was another trip to Far North Queensland (FNQ). I have lined up with some great friends: Murray(Muzza) Hunt, the Daintree Boatman, his partner Clare Anderson and Alan Gillanders from Alan's Wildlife tours. We met in Cairns and flew up to Lockhart River where we stayed at Portland House, a fantastic place to be.

We have birded Iron Range for about 8 days with great results before we returned to the Mossman area where Muzza, Clare and I spent a day on the Daintree and Mossman rivers. Again, great birding. We did see not only birds, but also some other exotic (at least for me) animals.

After that Muzza dropped me at Kingfisher Park, where my focus was on Red-necked Crake and the Buff-breasted Paradise Kingfisher. Beautiful place and Carol and Andrew were great hosts and I have met some very cooperative birds as well.

From there we continued to Yungaburra, where we had lunch at Alan's and Maria's place on Christmas day, thank you both so much for hosting us and the pleasant time at your place! The next day Alan and I birded the area with more great birds to see.
