Humpback Whales along the Australian east coast
The "Whales" albums present photos created while I have been and am watching the Humpback Whales migrating along the Australian east coast.
The numbers of migrating whales have been constantly going up (about 10% per year) and in 2013 about 20.000 animals are expecting to pass the Sydney Harbour entrance. During peak time, which is from mid-June to end of July, about 200 whales passing every day.
From August up to early December they return and we then see also the calves which were borne earlier off the coast of North Queensland. I have seen a number of these incredible creatures by now, but it is still an unbelievable moment when these giants of the sea breach and come almost entirely out of the water. And when you are watching the whales there is always a bit of "by-catch" like Dolphins and Flying Fish.
I hope the photos in this gallery will give you an idea why I feel addicted to watching these majestic animals as often as I can.
