Eclectus Parrots Eclectus roratus

One of the most unusual features of the Eclectus Parrot is the obvious difference between the male and female birds of this species: the bright green plumage of the male bird and the intensive red and blue plumage of the female. In the early days many people have thought this to be two different species.

Eclectus Parrots live in lowland tropical rainforests. In Australia one finds them in the eastern Cape York Peninsula, north Queensland.

We were lucky enough to see this birds when we visited the Iron Range National Park in October 2011.
